Cupid?

When we all think of Valentine’s Day, there are many stories and traditions that come into our mind. The most popular symbol for valentines day is cupid.

Cupid and Valentine’s Day have been associated together for a very long time. In fact, the word “cupid” is originally latin, the word cupido, which means desire.

The main reason that Cupid is associated with Valentine’s Day in our modern day is because the story of Cupid is that of love. Cupid was said to have fallen in love with a Psyche, a mortal. They married, but she was forbidden to look at him.

One day she disobeyed the orders, and Cupid ran from her. To be able to reunite with her beloved Cupid, Psyche had to pay a visit to Venus, Cupid’s mother. After undergoing several tests, Venus reunited Psyche and Cupid.

According to the story, Cupid and Psyche gave birth to a child named Pleasure.

Other legends that are very poplular are about Cupid’s arrows.

It is said that whoever is struck by Cupid’s arrow immediately falls in love with the next person they see. (Oh how romantic)

In myth this is how Venus came to fall in love with the god Adonis.

Cupid’s arrows are said to be either golden or lead.

The golden arrow represents true love, while the lead arrow represents lust. Then and Now

The Cupid in legend differs from the Cupid of today. The Cupid of today is represented as a winged, naked boy carrying a bow and arrow.

Though this image of Cupid runs into the ideas Valentine’s Day, it is totally different from the Cupid of the Greek and Roman legends. This Cupid was said to be very mischievous and naughty.

Most people know there is no such thing as Cupid or Cupids arrow, but many of us enjoy the fantasy of it all around Valentine’s Day, many people enjoy the thought that such a myth could bring them their chance at love.

The problem being that these days many people are also too busy in their hectic lifestyles to stop and appreciate their loved ones, so Valentines day is a wonderful way for any closet romantics to get out the choccies, flowers or whatever they choose.

Its one day a year where , if you are romantically involved, its time to put everything else aside and show him or er how much you love and desire them.

Whether you are in a new relationship or have been in one for many years.

There is no excuse not to let them know how much you love them.

Happy Valentines Day all xoxox
